Necessity

(Wujub). Necessity or obligation. There is a type of mercy which is called the mercy of obligation. It is a specific mercy which becomes obligatory for Allah only in the case of certain of His special slaves and friends.

(Rahma). Mercy and compassion. There are two kinds of mercy. The first is an essential mercy or the mercy of free-gift which Allah bestows upon all creatures without distinction. The second is a specific mercy or the mercy of obligation which Allah gives to those slaves who are deserving of it. When the slave has been blessed with the 'opening of unveiling' he sees, smells, tastes, touches and hears Allah's Rahma, which not only surrounds him, but also penetrates every atom of his being.
(Wajib). Incumbent and necessary. For the lover and slave and knower of Allah many things which are not incumbent upon the other believers become incumbent and necessary for him. The higher he ascends, and the further he travels, the greater become his responsibilities towards his Lord, towards his own self and towards all of humanity.
